Committees can be an effective way for boards to carry out many of their responsibilities. However, too many committees can lead to board member burn out or “death by committee.” This introductory and interactive 90 minute session will cover the basics of committees including what types of potential committees a board may consider forming, how to start a committee, how to delegate authority to a committee as well as what committee procedures are. Session participants will apply their learnings and explore the pros and cons of committees through interactive group work using case studies. Participants will also leave with several useful resource materials specific to committees. This session will be delivered using a combination of presentation and hands-on participant learning and engagement.
