Engaging Youth Board Members

Over the past decade, there has been an increase in the voices advocating for increased involvement by youth in the highest levels of decision-making. Advocates have offered the following rationale for youth engagement at Board level in nonprofit organizations:

  • Youths engaged in Boards can develop important social and leadership skills which are beneficial to the organization and society as a whole.
  • The organization’s capacity to make good decisions and wise investments in programs and services related to youth can be strengthened by youth engagement.
  • Youth offer a unique perspective and capability, and they can also enhance organizational effectiveness and impact.

This panel discussion will feature youth from various youth serving agencies and they will share their perspectives on what works and what doesn’t in relation to youth engagement in nonprofit boards.
