Keynote – Ruth McCambridge: The New Governance Environment

For decades nonprofit “experts” have equated boards of directors with governance (full stop) but in the past five years we have seen increasing numbers of situations in which stakeholders have been so unhappy with the decisions of a board that they have forced not only a re-consideration of those decisions but also often resignations of board members and the CEO.

The reasons why this is occurring more often and what forward thinking boards and organizational leaders can do about it is the topic of this session. The good news is that addressing the base problems that lead to such incidents can result in a much stronger and better protected organization and better mechanisms for recruitment.
