For decades nonprofit “experts” have equated boards of directors with governance (full stop) but in the past five years we have seen increasing numbers of situations in which stakeholders have been so unhappy with the decisions of a board that they have forced not only a re-consideration of those decisions but also often resignations of board members and the CEO.

The good news is that addressing the base problems that lead to such incidents can result in a much stronger and better protected organization and better mechanisms for recruitment.
